Giddy Dar 2004

I’ve thought a lot about this one. No that’s not true actually. But I’ve thought of it a few times. It’s pretty good. The acting is very warm; the director, who played the lead, set a nice tone and pace for the film. I’m not crazy about the ending. The camera style is interesting, very fast and loose, which is at odds with its setting, Jerusalem’s ultra religious Mea Shaarim neighborhood. The plot has a kind of O’Henry quality to it. It really helps that the characters are “returnees” — essentially, the Jewish version of being a born-again, complete with some awol convicts from his old days in Eilat.
